4:05 PM EDT Saturday 18 May 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Dryden - Vermilion Bay At 3:04 PM CDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts and up to toonie size hail. This cluster of severe thunderstorms is located from 15 kilometres south of Lac Seul to Aaron Provincial Park to 15 kilometres south of Upper Manitou Lake, moving northeast at 70 km/h. Hazard: Toonie size hail and 100 km/h wind gusts. Locations impacted include: Sioux Lookout, Aaron Provincial Park, Lac Seul, Ojibway Provincial Park, Wabigoon Lake, Gold Rock, Butler Lake, Minnehaha Lake, Olsen Lake, Larson Lake, Paulson Lake, Turtlepond Lake, Wabigoon, Rock Lake, Gullwing Lake, Dinorwic Lake, Dinorwic, Vaughan Lake, Cherry Lake and Big Sandy Lake. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Watches 11:40 AM EDT Saturday 18 May 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Dryden - Ignace Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and damaging hail. Hazards: Nickel to golf ball sized hail. Strong wind gusts of 90 to 110 km/h. Timing: This afternoon and early this evening. Discussion: Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon. The primary threats will be toonie sized hail and gusty winds. Stronger, isolated thunderstorms may produce up to golf ball sized hail and wind gusts in excess of 100 km/h. Thunderstorm activity will diminish through the evening. Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
