11:33 PM CDT Wednesday 10 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Shamattawa Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Locations: Portions of northern Manitoba. Time span: Currently until 4 am CDT Thursday. Primary threats: Isolated occurrences of large hail measuring 2 to 3 cm in diameter, along with scattered damaging wind gusts exceeding 90 km/h are possible. Remarks: Severe thunderstorms have developed over the region this evening. These storms will continue to track southeastward into the overnight hours, posing a risk of locally damaging wind gusts and hail. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
