Brief Description HEAT WARNING
Detailed Description 11:03 AM NDT Wednesday 19 June 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Terra Nova Temperatures reaching 32 degrees Celsius combined with overnight lows near 20 degrees Celsius are expected for the next 2 days. Time span: today and Thursday. Maximum daytime temperatures: 29 to 32 degrees Celsius (Humidex 33 to 41), except cooler along parts of the coast. Minimum nighttime temperatures: 18 to 20 degrees Celsius. Locations: central and northeastern Newfoundland. Remarks: An approaching airmass will bring hot and humid conditions beginning today, with the warmest temperatures expected to occur inland away from the coast. Temperatures are forecast to turn cooler over all areas Thursday night as a cold front moves across the region. Thursday is expected to be the hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures likely to reach as high as 32 degrees with humidex values of 41 for some areas, particularly across northeastern Newfoundland from Green Bay to Terra Nova. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Watch for early signs of heat illness ? feeling unwell, fatigue, thirst, headache ? as these can rapidly evolve into life-threatening emergencies. Move to a cooler environment immediately, such as a shaded or air-conditioned space. Heat stroke is a medical emergency! Call 911 or your local emergency number immediately if you or someone you are caring for has a high body temperature and is either confused, has stopped sweating or becomes unconscious. While waiting for help, cool the person right away: move them to a cool place, apply cold water to large areas of the skin and fan the person as much as possible. Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Please call HealthLine 811 for advice on health risks, symptoms and precautions associated with heat. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NLstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #NLwx .
