A slowly-developing tropical disturbance, known as JTWC Invest 90W, is centered near 6N159E, with latest scatterometer data showing a closed circulation, matching well with the latest CIMSS tropical vorticity analysis at 850mb and 500mb. The JTWC currently has 90W at a low chance of development, meaning development into a tropical cyclone (tropical depression) is unlikely within 24 hours. Main concerns with 90W will be locally heavy showers across Pohnpei State, which can lead to localized flooding. Recent scatterometer data shows sustained winds around the circulation are around 17 mph (15 kt), but gusty winds near heavy showers and thunderstorms could reach up to around 30 mph (25 kt), resulting in choppy seas and making for difficult inter-island travel at times. Models differ on the overall development of 90W, but agree on a westerly movement with 90W leaving Pohnpei State around Thursday night and moving into Chuuk State Friday. Residents across Pohnpei State should continue to monitor local weather forecasts the next couple of days from the National Weather Service in Guam, and for additional information from your local Weather Service Office and emergency management.
