Brief Description Flood Advisory
Detailed Description The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a Flood Advisory for the following rivers in North Carolina. French Broad River At Asheville affecting Buncombe County. .A complex storm system and associated cold front will impact the upper French Broad River watershed tonight through Sunday morning, resulting in periods of moderate to heavy rainfall. Storm-total accumulations of 3-5" are expected across the watershed. The resultant excessive runoff will likely cause the French Broad River at Asheville to reach or exceed Advisory/Action Stage, resulting in flooding of adjacent low-lying areas, including farmland, parks, greenways, boat-access areas, and golf courses. The most likely period of potential flooding is late Sunday morning through Monday morning, with conditions gradually improving by Monday evening. There remains some uncertainty about exact rainfall amounts. * WHAT. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE. French Broad River at Asheville. * WHEN. From Sunday afternoon to early Tuesday morning. * IMPACTS. At 7.5 feet, Action stage flooding continues. French Broad River floodwaters continue to flood Woodfin Riverside Park, the floodplain adjacent to Craggy Dam Reservoir, Carrier Park, and French Broad River Park as well as other low-lying areas within the flood plain. Floodwaters may be approaching Amboy Rd. and Lyman St. Local small tributaries including Smith Mill Creek near Emma Rd. may be exceeding bankfull levels. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 9:30 AM EST Saturday the stage was 2.3 feet. - Bankfull stage is 6.5 feet. - Forecast. The river is expected to rise to a crest of 7.5 feet Monday morning. - Action stage is 6.5 feet. - Flood stage is 9.5 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
