| Detailed Description | 10:22 AM ADT Saturday 3 August 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Mount Carleton - Renous Highway Humidex values reaching 36 are expected. Very warm and humid conditions continue. Time span: today, continuing through Sunday for the southern half of New Brunswick. Maximum daytime temperatures: 28 to 30 degrees Celsius (Humidex 37 to 39), except cooler along parts of the coast. Minimum overnight temperatures: 20 degrees Celsius. Locations: New Brunswick, except for the Fundy Coast. Remarks: A combination of very warm temperatures and elevated humidity will create high humidex values over the next several days. Temperatures are forecast to turn cooler over northwestern counties Saturday night and over remaining regions Sunday night. Check several times a day on older family, friends and neighbours. Make sure they are cool and drinking water. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Watches 12:46 PM ADT Saturday 3 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Mount Carleton - Renous Highway Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Potential rainfall rates: 25 mm per hour or higher. Potential wind gusts: 90 km/h or higher. Locations: northern New Brunswick. Time span: this afternoon into this evening. Remarks: Lines of thunderstorms may develop over the Gaspe Peninsula and track southward into northern New Brunswick this afternoon. Localized downpours and strong wind gusts may accompany some of the thunderstorms. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
