| Detailed Description | 10:53 AM ADT Wednesday 17 July 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Halifax Metro and Halifax County West Very warm and humid conditions continue. Time span: continuing today and possibly into Thursday. Locations: Nova Scotia, excluding extreme western areas. Maximum daytime temperatures: near 28 degrees Celsius (Humidex near 37). Minimum overnight temperatures: near 17 to 20 degrees Celsius. Remarks: The humid conditions will improve for most across the province by Wednesday night. Parts of northern Nova Scotia may continue to see hot and humid conditions lasting into Thursday. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues. Reduce your heat risk. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day. Limit direct sun exposure. Shade yourself by wearing a wide-brimmed, breathable hat and/or an umbrella. Keep your house cool. Turn on your air conditioning (if possible), block the sun by closing curtains or blinds, or relocate to a cooler location such as a basement or public cooling centre. Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
