4:58 PM EDT Saturday 27 July 2024 Rainfall Warning in effect for: Dryden - Vermilion Bay Rain, at times heavy, is expected. Hazards: Local rainfall amounts exceeding 50 mm. Timing: Late this afternoon through this evening. Discussion: Several rounds of thunderstorms will produce locally heavy rainfall. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. Maximum daytime temperatures of near 30 degrees Celsius are expected, with humidex values approaching 37. At this time, a cooler and less humid airmass is expected to arrive tonight. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues. Watches 5:18 PM EDT Saturday 27 July 2024 Tornado Watch in effect for: Dryden - Vermilion Bay Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which may produce tornadoes. Strong winds, large hail and heavy rain are also possible. Hazards: Risk of a tornado. Strong wind gusts up to 110 km/h. Ping pong ball sized hail. Timing: This afternoon into this evening. Discussion: An upper disturbance may continue to trigger severe thunderstorms into the evening. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. In the event of a tornado, or if a tornado warning is issued for your area, it is recommended you take the following actions: Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can. As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris. Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Tornado watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes.
