| Detailed Description | 10:18 PM ADT Thursday 20 June 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Halifax Metro and Halifax County West Humidex values reaching 36 will continue. A period of very warm and humid weather will soon come to an end. Time span: ending later this evening Minimum temperature tonight: 15 to 18 degrees Celsius. Locations: Halifax Metro - Halifax County West. Remarks: Temperatures and humidex values have dropped across most of the province but will remain above the threshold until late this evening in the metro area of Halifax Regional Municipality. This warning will be ended when both temperatures and humidex values from all official stations in the metro area have dropped below the warning threshold. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Watch for early signs of heat illness - feeling unwell, fatigue, thirst, headache - all these can rapidly evolve into life-threatening emergencies. Move to a cooler environment immediately, such as a shaded or air-conditioned space. Heat stroke is a medical emergency! Call 911 or your local emergency number immediately if you or someone you are caring for has a high body temperature and is either confused, has stopped sweating or becomes unconscious. While waiting for help, cool the person right away: move them to a cool place, apply cold water to large areas of the skin and fan the person as much as possible. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. All workers should take regularly scheduled breaks in a cool or shaded space. Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
