10:58 AM NDT Sunday 28 July 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Bonavista North An extended period of hot and humid weather is expected. Time span: today through Wednesday, possibly until Friday. Maximum daytime temperatures today: near 28 degrees Celsius (Humidex 33). Maximum daytime temperatures (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday): 29 to 32 degrees Celsius (Humidex 34 to 38). Minimum overnight temperatures: 18 to 21 degrees Celsius. Locations: central and northeastern Newfoundland. Remarks: The warmest temperatures will be experienced inland and where winds blow off the land, while cooler conditions are expected where winds blow onshore and along the immediate coastline. Little relief can be expected at night with elevated overnight temperatures. While there is high confidence that conditions satisfying heat warning criteria will be met through Wednesday, temperatures on Thursday and Friday may also be warm enough to require the warning to continue through Friday. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. Check several times a day on older family, friends and neighbours. Make sure they are cool and drinking water. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
