11:50 AM EDT Saturday 13 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Sioux Narrows - Nestor Falls - Morson At 10:50 AM CDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts and up to nickel size hail. This line of severe thunderstorms is located from Woodland Caribou Provincial Park to 15 kilometres northeast of Birch Point Provincial Park, moving east at 70 km/h. Hazard: 90 km/h wind gusts and nickel size hail. Locations impacted include: Kenora, Keewatin and Rushing River Provincial Park. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Daytime maximum temperatures are expected to be near 30 degrees Celsius, with humidex values near 36. There will be little relief at night as minimum temperatures of 18 to 20 degrees Celsius are expected. A cooler airmass is expected to arrive on Sunday. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Reduce your heat risk. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle.
