| Detailed Description | 7:43 PM EDT Sunday 26 May 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Windsor - Leamington - Essex County At 7:42 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain. This line of severe thunderstorms is located from 8 kilometres northwest of Amherstburg to 15 kilometres east of Pelee Island, moving north at 70 km/h. Hazards: 90 km/h wind gusts Nickel size hail Risk of a tornado Locations impacted include: Windsor, Leamington, Amherstburg, Tecumseh, Kingsville, Belle River, Lakeshore and Point Pelee National Park. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
