Brief Description SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
Detailed Description 5:11 AM EDT Saturday 7 September 2024 Rainfall Warning in effect for: New Carlisle - Port-Daniel area Rain, at times heavy, is expected. Total rainfall amounts of 50 millimetres are expected. Rain will begin this afternoon, intensify this evening and continue until early Sunday morning. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to QCstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #QCStorm . Statements 12:33 AM EDT Saturday 7 September 2024 Special Weather Statement in effect for: New Carlisle - Port-Daniel area Rain at times heavy and winds with a risk of storm surge. Time span: Saturday late afternoon and evening Locations: eastern Gaspé peninsula Hazards: rainfall of 30 to 50 millimetres is possible in a short period of time over the area and will be accompanied by moderate to strong easterly winds. At high tide, these winds could produce minor breaking sea conditions. Consider modifying any non-essential travel plans. Heavy rainfall rates could cause flash flooding and ponding on roads. If the level of rivers and streams rises quickly, they may affect or wash away bridges and culverts. Be sure to exercise caution. The combination of large waves and storm surge could result in minor damage to the shoreline and property along the coast. If you live on the coast, be sure to protect your belongings and remove or secure bulky objects on the property to prevent them from being tossed about or washed away by waves and becoming a hazard. Context: a low pressure system carrying tropical moisture located off the American east coast will cross the Gulf of St. Lawrence late in the day on Saturday. However, there is still some uncertainty regarding the intensity of the system as it passes through the area. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to QCstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #QCStorm .
