2:31 PM EDT Saturday 22 June 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Shelburne - Mansfield - Northern Dufferin County Orangeville - Grand Valley - Southern Dufferin County Innisfil - New Tecumseth - Angus At 2:31 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts. This severe thunderstorm is located near Violet Hill, moving east at 55 km/h. Hazard: 90 km/h wind gusts. A tornado is also possible. Locations impacted include: Alliston, New Tecumseth, Boyne Valley Provincial Park, Mansfield, Earl Rowe Provincial Park, Tottenham, Beeton, Violet Hill and Loretto. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Hazards: Wind gusts up to 90 km/h. Nickel to toonie size hail. Torrential downpours. Risk of tornadoes. Timing: This afternoon into this evening. Discussion: Thunderstorms will develop this afternoon. The main hazards will be torrential downpours and strong wind gusts. A secondary threat will be hail up to toonie size. Tornadoes cannot be ruled out, particularly west of the Golden Horseshoe and for areas south of Georgian Bay. Large hail can damage property and cause injury.
