| Detailed Description | 9:53 PM EDT Tuesday 16 July 2024 Rainfall Warning in effect for: Woodstock - Tillsonburg - Oxford County Rain, at times heavy, continues. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Watches 9:23 PM EDT Tuesday 16 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Woodstock - Tillsonburg - Oxford County Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain. Hazards: Strong wind gusts approaching 90 km/h. Local rainfall amounts approaching 30 mm. Timing: Continuing this evening. Discussion: Isolated thunderstorms will continue to impact region this evening. The primary threat with these thunderstorms is expected to be heavy rain. Should multiple thunderstorms track over the same location, rainfall amounts of 30 mm are possible. Isolated wind gusts up to 90 km/h may be possible. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Hail is also possible. Water-related activities may be unsafe due to violent and sudden gusts of wind over bodies of water. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
