2:14 PM PDT Thursday 22 August 2024 Special Weather Statement in effect for: Fraser Canyon - south including Lytton Rain, at times heavy, is expected. Where: South Thompson, Fraser Canyon, Pemberton. When: Friday night into Saturday. Total amounts: 15 to 25 mm except 40 mm in heaviest rain. Remarks: A low pressure system currently off the Oregon Coast will move inland on Friday then track across southern BC Friday evening. Rain, at times heavy, will begin Friday night then taper off to a few showers on Saturday. Make sure to follow DriveBC recommendations for travel and road conditions, and keep an eye on weather radar for the latest information on rain and thunderstorm activity. Enhanced risk of landslides in vulnerable areas, particularly those affected by recent wildfires (burn scars). The combination of heavy rainfall and potentially unstable soils could trigger landslides or debris flows, posing potential hazards to public safety, infrastructure and natural landscapes. The anticipated high precipitation rates over a short duration could lead to water pooling in areas with poor drainage, exacerbating localized flooding concerns.
