Brief Description	SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
Detailed Description	5:36 PM PDT Sunday 18 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Sunshine Coast - Gibsons to Earls Cove At 5:35 PM PDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts, pea to dime size hail and heavy rain. This area of severe thunderstorms is located over the Strait of Georgia and is moving north at 30 km/h towards the Sunshine Coast. Communities in its path include Sechelt, Gibsons, Roberts Creek, Halfmoon Bay. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
