Brief Description SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
Detailed Description 4:08 PM EDT Tuesday 13 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Kapuskasing - Hearst - Smooth Rock Falls At 4:08 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts. This severe thunderstorm is located north of Smooth Rock Falls, moving southeast at 35 km/h. Hazard: 90 km/h wind gusts. Locations impacted include: Areas north of Smooth Rock Falls including Brownrigg. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Hail and locally heavy rain are also possible. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Hazards: 90 km/h wind gusts. Nickel sized hail. Timing: This afternoon through this evening. Discussion: Scattered thunderstorms have developed that may be capable of producing 90 km/h wind gusts and nickel sized hail. These storms will dissipate this evening as daytime heating comes to an end. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.
