| Detailed Description | 8:04 PM EDT Friday 12 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Armstrong - Auden - Wabakimi Park At 8:04 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain. This cluster of severe thunderstorms is located from Burness Lake to Wabakimi Provincial Park and from Whitesand Provincial Park to Muskrat Lake, moving east at 55 km/h. Hazards: Up to 90 km/h wind gusts. Up to nickel size hail. Heavy rain with local rainfall amounts of 50 to 75 mm possible Locations impacted include: Wabakimi Lake, Ogoki Reservoir, Faubert Lake and Ogoki Falls. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. A hot airmass has moved into northern Ontario. Daytime maximum temperatures are expected to be near 29 degrees Celsius, with humidex values near 35. There will be little relief at night as minimum temperatures are expected to be near 18 degrees Celsius. A cooler airmass is expected to arrive Sunday night or Monday. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Reduce your heat risk. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle.
