| Detailed Description | 4:19 PM MDT Thursday 18 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Banff Nat. Park near Banff Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing large hail and heavy rain. Thunderstorms have developed. Some of these thunderstorms are nearly stationary, and may produce severe rainfall amounts as high as 50 mm in an hour. Large accumulations of small hail are also possible. The thunderstorm motion is expected to be variable from east to north to west. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
