| Detailed Description | 4:58 PM EDT Saturday 22 June 2024 Rainfall Warning in effect for: Caledon Mississauga - Brampton Halton Hills - Milton A slow moving area of showers of thunderstorms has developed from near Fergus to Pickering. Local rainfall amounts of near 50 mm are possible over just a few hours. Locations impacted include: Vaughan, Markham, Pickering, Fergus, Elora, Woodbridge, North York, Ennotville, Oustic, Brucedale, Ballinafad, Cheltenham, Mayfield, East Brampton, Malton, Rexdale, Concord, Thornhill, Highway 401 at Highway 404 and Unionville. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. Watches 5:24 PM EDT Saturday 22 June 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Caledon Mississauga - Brampton Halton Hills - Milton Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain. Hazards: Wind gusts up to 90 km/h. Torrential downpours. Risk of tornadoes. Timing: Continuing into this evening. Discussion: Additional thunderstorms are expected to move into the area from Lower Michigan this evening. The main hazards will be torrential downpours and localized strong wind gusts. Brief tornadoes cannot be completely ruled out, particularly west of the Golden Horseshoe and for areas south of Georgian Bay. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
