Brief Description Marine Weather Statement
Detailed Description Low pressure will move across the Bering Sea toward the Southwest Alaska coast this weekend. A noticeable increase in winds will begin late Friday night along the Alaska Peninsula and spread into Bristol Bay, south of Cape Newenham by Saturday morning. Southerly winds 35 kts with gusts to 45 kts are expected to shift westerly Saturday evening and last through Sunday for the Bristol Bay area. Waves will build to between 9 and 11 feet in the open waters of Bristol Bay and the southeastern Bering Sea. Westerly gale force winds accompanying wave heights of 8 to 11 feet will push toward to coast of Bristol Bay by Sunday morning. Wave heights are expected to gradually subside Sunday afternoon. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected Friday night through Saturday. This system is continuing to develop. Updates to the timing of this forecast can be expected. Those with marine interests along the Southwest Coast, especially across Bristol Bay and the northern Alaska Peninsula coast, should monitor the forecast closely for updates and take any necessary precautions.
