| Detailed Description | 12:10 PM EDT Saturday 3 August 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Valleyfield - Beauharnois area Heat and humidity will continue through Sunday with humidex values near 40. Nights will remain warm with lows exceeding 20 degrees Celsius. The feeling of discomfort will be particularly acute in urban areas, where temperatures could reach a few degrees higher. The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Check several times a day on older family, friends and neighbours. Make sure they are cool and drinking water. Reduce your heat risk. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Watches 10:05 AM EDT Saturday 3 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Valleyfield - Beauharnois area Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts, damaging hail and heavy downpours this afternoon and this evening. Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Water-related activities may be unsafe due to violent and sudden gusts of wind over bodies of water. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
