* WHAT. Flooding caused by rain and snowmelt is expected. * WHERE. The Chilkat River near areas around mile post 14 and 24 of the Haines Highway, near Klukwan and the Chilkat River bridge. * WHEN. Until 1000 PM AKDT Saturday. * IMPACTS. Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. River flows are elevated. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 242 PM AKDT, river gauge reports indicate that the Chilkat River has crested and will slowly recede through Saturday afternoon. Minor flooding is ongoing especially near the Chilkat River and impacts will continue. - For Chilkat River at Klukwan: At 1:00pm the stage was 128.0 feet. Flood Stage is 126.0 feet. The river has crested at 1:00pm Thursday around 128.0ft. Water levels will begin to recede through Friday and Saturday with water levels below minor flood stage by Saturday evening. Impacts: At 127.5 feet: Lower elevations in backyards along the Chilkat River in Klukwan will be underwater, and a river access road, smokehouses and storage sheds will flood. Bank erosion is expected to increase near Jilkaat Kwan Cultural Heritage Center Campus Traditional Knowledge camp. At 128.0 feet: Water will begin to flow over the driveway into the property of Chilkat River Adventures just upstream of the Haines Highway Chilkat River bridge. Minor flooding may occur near mile post 14 and 25 boat launches along with minor flooding of Porcupine Road. Flooding of backyards along the Chilkat River in Klukwan will get worse.
