| Detailed Description | 3:54 PM MDT Monday 27 May 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Ft. Simpson Region including Jean Marie River At 3:54 PM MDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain. There are two severe thunderstorms. The first is located 30 km south of Fort Simpson. The second is located 25 km south of Jean Marie River. These severe thunderstorms are moving toward the north at 30 km/h. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
