Brief Description SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
Detailed Description 5:01 AM ADT Wednesday 17 July 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Oromocto and Sunbury County A period of hot and humid weather continues. Time span: continuing today and possibly into Thursday. Maximum daytime temperatures: near 28 to 30 degrees Celsius (Humidex 36 to 40). Minimum overnight temperatures: 18 to 20 degrees Celsius. Locations: most of New Brunswick (excluding the Fundy Coast). Remarks: A combination of very high temperatures and elevated humidity continue to affect the region. The warmest conditions are expected to occur today in areas stretching from Woodstock to Sussex, when Humidex values could reach 40 in the afternoon. Temperatures will turn cooler over all areas on Friday. Areas near the coast will be generally cooler throughout the period. The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Reduce your heat risk. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day. All workers should take regularly scheduled breaks in a cool or shaded space. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NBstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #NBStorm . Statements 5:05 AM ADT Wednesday 17 July 2024 Special Weather Statement in effect for: Oromocto and Sunbury County A period of intense rainfall is expected. Total rainfall: 20 to 40 mm. Locally higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Locations: southern and central New Brunswick. Time span: continuing until mid morning. Remarks: Rainfall rates could exceed 30 mm per hour at times. Be sure storm drains and gutters are cleared of debris. Heavy downpours can cause flash flooding and pooling of water. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NBstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #NBStorm .
