3:25 PM CST Wednesday 17 July 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Buffalo Narrows and Peter Pond Lake Temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius combined with overnight lows near 14 degrees Celsius are expected for more than 5 days. A prolonged heat event continues. For the next 6 to 8 days, daytime highs will be between 27 and 35 degrees Celsius and overnight lows will range from 14 to 20 degrees Celsius. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues. Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions. These thunderstorms will move very slowly. Some of these thunderstorms may produce strong wind gusts, large hail and torrential rain. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
