| Detailed Description | 1:45 PM MDT Friday 23 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Foothills Co. near High River and Aldersyde Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail. Thunderstorms have developed in Idaho and southern Montana. These thunderstorms are tracking very quickly to the north. When these thunderstorms cross the US border early this evening, some of them will likely be severe. Watches will be expanded to the north as the situation develops. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
