| Detailed Description | 2:43 PM EDT Thursday 13 June 2024 Tornado Warning in effect for: Timmins - Cochrane - Iroquois Falls At 2:42 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible. A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado is located 21 kilometres northwest of Timmins, moving east at 65 km/h. Hazard: Tornado Locations impacted include: Timmins, Pottsville, Porcupine, Keyson and Dugwal. This severe thunderstorm is embedded in a cluster of thunderstorms sweeping through the region that are producing nickel to toonie sized hail and 90 km/h wind gusts. This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. If you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take shelter immediately. Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can. As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Hazards: Strong winds gusts up to 90 km/h Toonie to golf ball size hail Risk of a tornado Timing: This afternoon and early this evening. Discussion: Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop and track through the region today. Strong wind gusts and large hail are the main threats. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Water-related activities may be unsafe due to violent and sudden gusts of wind over bodies of water. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
