Brief Description HEAT WARNING
Detailed Description 4:32 AM MST Wednesday 7 August 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Dempster Temperatures reaching 28 degrees Celsius combined with overnight lows near 13 degrees Celsius are expected for the next 3 days. Temperatures reaching at least 28 degrees Celsius combined with overnight lows near 13 degrees Celsius. Where: Whitehorse, Mayo, Old Crow, and the Dempster. When: Now until Thursday. Remarks: A warm airmass has settled over the Yukon. Temperatures are expected to be between 7 and 12 degrees above seasonal normals. Cooler conditions are expected to arrive late in the week. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. Check several times a day on older family, friends and neighbours. Make sure they are cool and drinking water. When it?s hot, eat cool, light meals. Avoid using the oven. To get more information: - Check the local news for health and safety updates. - Check Yukon Health and Social Services online resources about heat-related illness and how to protect yourself at yukon.ca/heatevents . - Call Yukon HealthLine at 8-1-1 to ask about heat-related illness. Environment Canada and local Medical Health Officers expect an increase in health and safety risks from heat and are advising the public to take precautions.
