Brief Description Flood Watch
Detailed Description Another round of heavy rainfall could lead to potential flooding for the Northern Inner Channels, including Juneau, Tuesday evening through Wednesday night. Rivers are already starting higher and soils have become more saturated due to the most recent heavy rain event. * WHAT. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE. The following area, Central Inner Channels. This includes the city of Juneau. * WHEN. From 7 PM AKDT this evening through late Wednesday night. * IMPACTS. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, other low-lying areas and flood-prone locations. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - A quick lived system will spread a plume of moisture over the panhandle Tuesday night through Wednesday night. Additional forecast rainfall totals around 2 to 4 inches are expected within the Watch area through Wednesday night. This area has already seen 3 to 6 inches of rain over the past 72 hrs with the highest amounts over the mountains, which with saturated soils, will exacerbate already swollen rivers and streams. The Mendenhall Valley and Auke Lake is already under a flood advisory. Other area rivers and streams could see high flows and minor flooding as well through Wednesday night. Temperatures aloft will remain warm through Wednesday with freezing levels near 10000 feet, leading to increased snow and ice melt into our glacier fed rivers.
