8:35 AM EDT Tuesday 16 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: City of Hamilton At 8:35 AM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts and heavy rain. This line of severe thunderstorms is located from Ancaster to Bloomingdale, moving northeast at 75 km/h. Hazard: 90 km/h wind gusts and rainfall amounts up to 30 mm. Locations impacted include: Guelph, Milton, Burlington, Oakville, Halton Hills, Ancaster, Dundas, Waterdown, Rockwood, Rockton, Acton, Carlisle, Georgetown and Bronte Creek Provincial Park. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Avoid driving through water on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Watches 7:59 AM EDT Tuesday 16 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: City of Hamilton Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Hazards: Wind gusts up to 90 km/h. Local rainfall amounts up to 50 mm possible. Up to nickel size hail. Timing: This morning. Discussion: Thunderstorms are tracking over southwestern Ontario and may produce isolated damaging wind gusts, torrential downpours and large hail. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.
