| Detailed Description | 3:32 PM MDT Thursday 25 July 2024 Wind Warning in effect for: Athabasca Co. near Athabasca and Island Lake Strong west to northwest winds with gusts up to 90 km/h are expected beginning tonight and will continue into Friday. These winds will begin to weaken by Friday evening. Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. Motorists, especially in high profile vehicles, may expect hazardous driving conditions on highways subject to strong cross winds. Avoid wooded areas to prevent injury from falling trees or branches. Campers should move to sturdy shelters. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ABstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #ABStorm . 3:32 PM MDT Thursday 25 July 2024 Rainfall Warning in effect for: Athabasca Co. near Athabasca and Island Lake Heavy rain will continue tonight and Friday with total rainfall amounts of 70 to 90 mm expected by Saturday. The heaviest rainfall amounts will be in areas where embedded thunderstorms occur. Heavy rain will taper off by Saturday morning. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
