7:43 PM CDT Friday 17 May 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: R.M. of St. François Xavier R.M. of Portage la Prairie incl. St. Ambroise R.M. of Cartier incl. Elie St. Eustache and Springstein R.M. of Macdonald incl. Brunkild Starbuck and La Salle R.M. of Dufferin incl. Carman Roseisle and Homewood R.M. of Grey incl. St. Claude Elm Creek and Fannystelle At 7:42 PM CDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain. This line of severe thunderstorms is located from Delta Beach to Gretna, moving northeast at 45 km/h. Hazard: 100 km/h wind gusts and nickel size hail. Locations impacted include: Altona, Morris, Newton, St. Marks, Poplar Point, Fortier, Culross, Bénard, St. Eustache, Fannystelle, Kane, Sperling, Horndean, Dacotah, Starbuck, Lowe Farm, Brunkild, Gnadenfeld, Neubergthal and Sommerfeld. Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Watches 7:14 PM CDT Friday 17 May 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Portage la Prairie - Headingley - Brunkild - Carman Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. A line of thunderstorms is tracking through western Manitoba, some of which may become severe. These thunderstorms will push east through the evening. The main threats will be strong winds, large hail and heavy rain, with the possibility of an isolated tornado. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.
