9:26 PM EDT Monday 26 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Cloud Bay - Dorion At 9:25 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain. This cluster of severe thunderstorms is located over Thunder Bay and towards the northeast to Magone Lake, moving east at 20 km/h. Hazards: Nickel size hail. Rainfall of 50 mm. Locations impacted include: Thunder Bay, Bentley Lake, Beaverlodge Lake, Walkinshaw Lake, Magone Lake, Penassen Lakes, Sparks Lake, Amethyst Harbour and Beck. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Hazards: Up to toonie sized hail. Heavy rainfall of 50 mm. Wind gusts up to 90 km/h. Timing: Continuing this evening. Discussion: Thunderstorms have developed in the Thunder Bay area this evening. The main hazards with these storms are large hail and heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms are expected to gradually weaken or move out of the area late this evening or after midnight. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.
