Brief Description |
Flood Advisory |
Detailed Description |
* WHAT. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE. Union County, North Carolina * WHEN. Until 800 AM EDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS. Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams and other poor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks, greenways, boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and parking lots. Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible. A few flood-prone, low-water crossings may become impassible. A small culvert washout or two is possible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 807 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain and streamgauges indicate that Union County has seen between 2 and 3 inches of rain over the past 4-6 hours as a result of the outer rainbands of a weak coastal low pressure system. Over the past two hours, these bands have been capable of producing rainfall rates of 1-1.5 inches per hour, enhancing areas of excessive runoff. Area streams are responding to this runoff and several smaller streams may be approaching bankfull levels. Expect several small streams to exceed bankfull and cause nuisance flooding of adjacent low-lying areas. Areas of greatest concern include along the Bearskin Creek watershed near N Charlotte Ave in Monroe, where a streamgauge indicates nuisance flooding of Dickerson Park is imminent. Other areas of concern include along and near US 74 between Monroe and Marshville, and areas between Waxhaw, Wesley Chapel, Mineral Springs, and Weddington. Additional bands of moderate rainfall are expected tonight and will likely cause further rises on area streams. Another 1-3 inches are possible through Tuesday morning. Expect new areas of nuisance and Minor flooding to develop throughout the evening and overnight hours, including between Wesley Chapel, Indian Trail, and Fairview within the Crooked Creek and Goose Creek watersheds. - Soils are saturated and streams are swollen. Therefore, additional heavy rain may quickly create new areas of flooding and cause previous areas of flooding to redevelop. As a result, a Flash Flood Warning may be issued later tonight if conditions continue to deteriorate. Caution is advised near any stream or other vulnerable area. Seek higher ground immediately if heavy rain develops. Please have a plan in place should flash flooding develop and do not hesitate to act. - Some locations that may experience nuisance to Minor flooding include. Monroe, Indian Trail, Weddington, Stallings, Unionville, Wesley Chapel, Wingate, Waxhaw, Marshville, Lake Park, Mineral Springs, Hemby Bridge, Marvin, Fairview, Sturdivants, Jaars and Trinity. - Http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood |
