10:56 PM CST Friday 23 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: R.M. of Poplar Valley including Rockglen and Fife Lake At 10:56 PM CST, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of dangerous thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts, up to toonie size hail and heavy rain. This line extends from Swift Current southeast to the international border at Grasslands National Park, moving northeast at 45 km/h. Hazard: 110 km/h wind gusts and quarter sized hail. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Thunderstorms continue across southern and central Saskatchewan and will last into the overnight period. Some of these thunderstorms will be severe. Strong winds and very large hail are the prevailing threats. Watches will be extended as the situation develops. Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road.
