Invest 90W is centered near 6N159E or just southeast of Pohnpei. 90W is currently moving westward towards Chuuk State. A weak closed circulation is evident on the latest scatterometer but remains somewhat stretched to the north and south. The JTWC gives 90W a low chance for significant development over the next 24 hours, meaning development of a significant tropical cyclone (tropical depression) is not expected in the next 24 hours. Satellite trends have shown increasing organization today. This feature will bring unsettled weather to Chuuk State and Weno including locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds. Uncertainty remains on the direct path 90W may take towards Chuuk as well as how quickly it develops. Numerical models remain split on the whether or not 90W will develop or not. Despite the uncertainty in the forecast, travel between islands could become hazardous as thunderstorm activity, the potential for strong gusts, and choppy seas increases. Folks across Chuuk State should monitor local weather forecasts the next couple of days from the National Weather Service in Guam, and for additional information from your local Weather Service Office and emergency management.
