| Detailed Description | 11:38 PM EDT Monday 16 September 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Kenora - Grassy Narrows - Whitedog Rain, heavy at times continues after the line of thunderstorms has passed. Hazards: Heavy rainfall with local amounts of 50 to 100 mm Locations impacted include: Kenora, Lake of the Woods Provincial Park, Keewatin, Rushing River Provincial Park, Keewatin, Rushing River Provincial Park, Grassy Narrows, Harris Hill. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Watches 11:41 PM EDT Monday 16 September 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Kenora - Grassy Narrows - Whitedog Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Hazards: Wind gusts up to 90 km/h Up to nickel sized hail Heavy rain with rainfall rates near 50 mm per hour Timing: Continuing late this evening and overnight. Discussion: Thunderstorms will continue to move across northwestern Ontario late this evening and overnight. The primary threat with these thunderstorms is expected to be heavy rain, however, strong wind gusts and hail can not be ruled out. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
