5:21 AM NDT Monday 29 July 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Gander and vicinity Hot and humid weather is expected to continue. Time span: continuing until Thursday. Maximum daytime temperatures: 28 to 32 degrees Celsius (Humidex 33 to 38). Minimum overnight temperatures: 19 to 21 degrees Celsius. Locations: central, northeastern, and parts of eastern Newfoundland. Remarks: The warmest temperatures will be experienced inland and where winds blow off the land, while cooler conditions are expected where winds blow onshore and along the immediate coastline. Little relief can be expected at night with elevated overnight temperatures. Current indications suggest that temperatures may reach heat warning criteria for only parts of northeastern Newfoundland on Wednesday. However, hot and humid conditions will return to all areas again on Thursday. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Reduce your heat risk. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day. Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
