Brief Description SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
Detailed Description 1:53 PM CST Thursday 11 July 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: R.M. of Loreburn including Elbow Loreburn and Hawarden Temperatures reaching 32 degrees Celsius combined with overnight lows near 16 degrees Celsius are expected for the next 3 to 5 days. An extended period of extreme heat continues over southern Saskatchewan with highs reaching 32 degrees Celsius and overnight lows near 16 degrees Celsius. Persistent humidity is also a factor. Humidex values will be around 35 degrees in the afternoon. Meanwhile, the overnight and morning hours will see the relative humidity approach 100%. These extreme temperatures will persist Thursday before temperatures cool slightly as the weekend approaches. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues. Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. If you are in an overheated area, seek a cool place such as a tree-shaded area, splash pad, misting station, or air-conditioned spot like a public building. Limit direct sun exposure. Shade yourself by wearing a wide-brimmed, breathable hat and/or an umbrella. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. Watch for early signs of heat illness (feeling unwell, fatigue, thirst, headache) as these can rapidly evolve into life-threatening emergencies. Move to a cooler environment immediately, such as a shaded or air-conditioned space. Keep your house cool. Turn on your air conditioning (if possible), block the sun by closing curtains or blinds, or relocate to a cooler location such as a basement or public cooling centre. All workers should take regularly scheduled breaks in a cool or shaded space. Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Please call HealthLine 811 for advice on health risks, symptoms and precautions associated with heat. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to SKstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #SKStorm . Issued by Environment Canada and the Government of Saskatchewan Watches 2:10 AM CST Friday 12 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: R.M. of Loreburn including Elbow Loreburn and Hawarden Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Thunderstorms continue as a weak cold front moves into Saskatchewan. These thunderstorms will move to the east or southeast through the overnight hours. Some will become severe. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to SKstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #SKStorm .
