10:51 PM MDT Wednesday 24 July 2024 Rainfall Warning in effect for: Westlock Co. near Westlock and Clyde Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms have developed this evening and will continue overnight as they push northward. Amounts of 20 to 40 mm are likely by morning although there will be quite a variation with thunderstorms. Storm total rainfall amounts of 70 to 90 mm are likely, with local amounts possibly exceeding 100 mm. Heavy rain will taper off Saturday morning. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Thunderstorms have developed. Some of these thunderstorms will become severe tonight. The risk of severe thunderstorms will last until after midnight in central Alberta, but will last until tomorrow in eastern and northeastern Alberta. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
