Brief Description SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
Detailed Description 4:25 PM ADT Saturday 17 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Norman Bay to Lodge Bay Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain. Potential hazards include: - Rainfall rates of 25 mm per hour or higher. - Wind gusts 70 to 90 km/h. - Up to nickel-sized hail. Locations: southeastern Labrador from Norman Bay to Lodge Bay, as well as the Eagle River section of the Trans Labrador Highway. Time span: ending this evening. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
