2:11 PM EDT Wednesday 4 September 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Pickle Lake - Cat Lake At 1:10 PM CDT (2:10 p.m. EDT), Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to toonie size hail and heavy rain. This cluster of severe thunderstorms is located 23 kilometres northwest of Mamiegowish Lake, moving east at 65 km/h. Hazard: Toonie size hail and 90 km/h wind gusts. Locations impacted include: Otoskwin Lake, Mamiegowish Lake, Menako Lakes, Obustiga Lake, Spruce Lakes and Badesdawa Lake. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Hazards: Wind gusts up to 90 km/h. Up to toonie size hail. Heavy downpours. Timing: This afternoon through this evening. Discussion: Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and evening. The main threats with these thunderstorms are strong wind gusts and toonie size hail. Heavy downpours are also possible with these storms. Large hail can damage property and cause injury.
