| Detailed Description | 6:51 PM ADT Thursday 15 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: western half of Restigouche County At 6:51 PM ADT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts, pea to dime size hail and heavy rain. Maximum rainfall rates: 25 to 35 mm per hour. Locations: southern Restigouche County and northern Victoria County. Time span: continuing until later this evening. Remarks: Radar indicates intense downpours are associated with a cluster of strong thunderstorms near Saint-Quentin that are slowly moving southwest. Strong wind gusts and pea sized hail are also possible. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Potential rainfall rates: 20 to 30 mm per hour. Locations: northern New Brunswick. Time span: continuing until later this evening. Remarks: Scattered thunderstorms have developed over northern New Brunswick this afternoon and are expected to continue into this evening. Strong wind gusts, pea sized hail, and heavy downpours may accompany these storms. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
