4:57 PM EDT Tuesday 4 June 2024 Tornado Warning in effect for: Dryden - Vermilion Bay At 3:56 PM CDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible. A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado is located 5 kilometres north of Eagle Lake, moving northeast at 50 km/h Hazard: Tornado and toonie size hail. This severe thunderstorm will be near: Eagle River around 5:00 PM EDT. Minnitaki around 5:10 PM EDT. Minnitaki around 5:20 PM EDT. Locations impacted include: Eagle River, Minnitaki, Oxdrift and Eton-Rugby. This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. If you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take shelter immediately. Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can. As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Strong winds, large hail and heavy rain are also possible. Timing: This afternoon or early this evening. Hazards: Risk of tornadoes Wind gusts up to 100 km/h Heavy downpours Nickel size hail Discussion: A line of thunderstorms is expected to push eastwards through northwestern Ontario this afternoon or early this evening. The main threats with these thunderstorms will be strong wind gusts and a tornado threat. In addition, the moist airmass will allow for storms to produce heavy downpours. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.
