3:35 PM CST Tuesday 17 September 2024 Rainfall Warning in effect for: R.M. of Maple Creek including Cypress Hills Prov. Park Rain, at times heavy, is expected. A developing low pressure system in Montana will bring the first wave of rain showers and thunderstorms to areas in the southwest beginning tonight. By Wednesday morning, persistent rains are expected over the region that will last for the remainder of the day. In general, 40 to 60 mm of rain is expected in the warned regions by Thursday morning. Amounts exceeding those numbers will be confined to areas near the Cypress Hills and where locally embedded convection develops. This warning may be extended northwards as the rain begins to pivot in that direction through the day on Wednesday. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Heavy rainfall in combination with other weather factors, such as hail, wind and lightning will make outdoor activities unsafe. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
