| Detailed Description | 3:31 PM EDT Tuesday 27 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Ville-Marie area At 3:31 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Rainfall amounts near 50 millimetres are expected. However, rainfall amounts could reach up to 75 millimetres locally if several thunderstorms are crossing the same areas. Duration: - Témiscamingue: until late this evening. - Rés. faunique de La Vérendrye: from late this afternoon to near midnight. - Pontiac: from early this evening to early Wednesday morning. The rain may also increase the flow and level of some streams and rivers. Moreover, significant ponding of water is possible on roads and inland. Heavy rainfall in combination with other weather factors, such as hail, wind and lightning will make outdoor activities unsafe. Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
