9:51 AM ADT Thursday 18 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Queens County Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain. Rainfall rates: 20 to 30 mm/h, possibly higher in thunderstorms. Locations: southwestern Nova Scotia. Time span: continuing until this evening. Remarks: Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue tracking onshore into southwestern Nova Scotia throughout the day. Localized torrential rainfall is possible with these showers and thunderstorms. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
