Brief Description Coastal Flood Warning
Detailed Description * WHAT. Significant coastal flooding expected. * WHERE. Eastern Norton Sound and Nulato Hills. * WHEN. From 4 PM this afternoon to 7 AM AKDT Wednesday. * IMPACTS. Low lying property including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure will be inundated. Shoreline erosion will occur. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. There will be multiple peaks in water levels, with high water expected late tonight and early Monday morning, then the highest water expected late Monday night and early Tuesday morning. Water levels are expected to rise to 8 to 12 feet above normal high tide across much of eastern Norton Sound. For Shaktoolik, water levels of 9 to 12 feet will result in lots of erosion and breaking waves washing away the sea wall. Water is also expected to rise across the backside of Shaktoolik near the runway. For Unalakleet, water levels of 8 to 10 feet above normal high tide will result in water inundating the area around the AC Store, as well as water backing up the Unalakleet River. For Stebbins and St. Michael, 8 to 12 feet of water above the normal high tide line will result in water in low-lying areas around town. For Koyuk, water levels are expected to be 10 to 13 feet above normal high tide line. For Elim, water levels will be 8 to 12 feet above normal high tide line. These water levels are similar to what was observed during the remnants of Typhoon Merbok in 2022.
